I've been buying up a library's worth of material on herbal remedies. These things can't perform all of the miracles, but they often do have some fairly miraculous effects regardless.

What I've learned is that the vast majority of "herbs" are really what most modern folks call "weeds." I figure in a collapse scenario, folks are more likely to let yards, greens, fields, and lawns just overgrow. What folks typically think of as "grass" could be hundreds of different species in one plot just waiting for the chance to pop up and grow to maturity, but they've been constantly beaten back down by lawnmowers.

I'm trying to learn how to spot which ones are good for eating and which can be used to clear up a cold, heal a cut, calm dermatitis, or just instantly stop blood loss. These used to be things our ancestors just knew by way of being human, but we've lost these skills. When everything else crumbles away, we're going to need to rely heavily on Mama Nature. My preference is just to let her handle the growing of stuff, and I'll just forage what she provides.
