Its the oxygen mask metaphor. Hard to assist others (without risk to yourself) if you haven't gotten yourself ready. The neighborhood organization piece is the most often overlooked and easy ways to build a preparedness network. Loving these posts and looking forward to more, maybe some thoughts on the Northwest's cheap power and transitioning away from hydro (eventually), continental migration north in response to climate change factors...

Very true re: the oxygen mask. Although I see very little content beyond personal preparedness among the traditional preppers. It may be implied, but community preparedness isn't talked about much which I think is a missed opportunity. I'd love to see more of these folks talk about why and how personal preparedness can lead to better community preparedness.

Agreed. Another one that is less touched on except by hardcore preppers is how to use your preps on an ongoing basis. Our electric utility EWEB does a 12-month "Pledge to Prepare" Campaign but what to do after you've compiled preps is hardly ever touched on - basically ongoing maintenance.
